Grouping Materials
Ø Every one of you uses pencil. Do you know from which material pencil is made
up of?
 (wood/plastic/metal and graphite)
Ø What is meant by material?
material is anything made of matter, constituting one or more substances.
Ø Did you find the eraser easily from the bowl?
(no)
Ø Why you can’t find eraser easily from the bowl?
(because so many different things are there along with eraser)
Ø Did you find the eraser easily from the table? Why?
(yes, as all the objects are grouped/organised on the table, it was easier to pick up the required material)
Ø What is the difference between these two diagrams?
(shape of the circle and triangle are different)
objects or materials are arranged on the basis of their similarities or differences. Such arrangement is known as classification.
Ø How can you differentiate between a solid and liquid material?
Ø What is the difference between solid and gases?
(gases have neither shape nor volume whereas solids have a definite shape and volume)
Ø In which state of matter, particles are loosely packed?
(gases)
Ø Which state of matter does ‘oxygen’ belongs to?
 (gases)

(gases)
Ø Which of the two objects is smoother to touch?
 (marble)
Ø Which of the two objects is rough to touch?
 (piece of wood)
Ø Which of the object shines?
 (gold ring)

Such materials are nether transparent not opaque and are known as semitransparent or translucent materials
